This beehive fence project currently works in 19 countries across Africa and Asia. Their goal is to develop a toolbox of options for people to live in harmony with nature and elephants. The conflict continues to rise between humans and elephants as they compete for resources and a new approach is needed to coexist. 80% of elephants are kept out of small farmlands due to the innovative beehive fences while the bees also improve crops and yield. These fences will hopefully provide an alternative to the electric fences and other harmful methods currently being implemented.
The honey produced by the beehive fences has provided individuals with an extra livelihood income in addition to a healthy alternative to sugar.
There is a new Women’s Enterprise Center being developed that encourages women farmers. They create and sell items such as;
Chili oils
Baskets
Lipbalms
Honey
